Danny You have the private address, this is public one. I'm glad you had fun. Had to wait to get home to read your post...SJUnifiedSchoolDistrict said your site was pornographic & would not let me view it from school.

NONA: Probably your schcol scanned the site and saw that I had once written an Essay with the word "pornographic" in it and it was Katie Bar the Door. Computers, especially spell-checkers and censor programs, are not stupid, but you can't accuse them of being contextually sensitive, either.
That being said, show me your tits.

Hi Uncle P, It was great to see you and hear you play last night at the Peninsula Inn. Nice place and tasty food even if our waiter did have opportunities for improvement. I especially liked hearing "Lost In Austin" because it reminds me of Daddy. I have some of his stuff on my IPOD where all of yours is going. But the most moving was "Heaven and Earth". It is so well written and during the chorus my boyfriend Paul put his hand on my knee so it must have moved him too! I just moved in with him in November and could never agree on hardly any music until he heard some of my old country and Daddy's stuff. He LOVED your music and is listening today to the other CD. Take care and please stay in touch. I love you Uncle.

****Thassa good little niece. Thanks for coming out, and my best wishes for you and Paul. I love you, too, baby.

Dear Panama,
Please excuse my delay getting this note out to you. It has taken a few days to get my feet back on the ground (and catch up with many weeks worth of lost sleep).
I am truly glad you were able to join us this year for the South Florida Folk Round Up. Your set was everything I hoped it would be and more. It was a real pleasure to watch the spirit you put into your performance. You obviously love what you do, and it shows. Both you and Robert were terrific, and everybody loved hearing you. The only thing I always regret when I'm involved in events like this is that I'm so caught up in making sure everything is running smoothly that I never have time to really chat with any of the artists. And it all goes by so quickly, in a blur... and then it's over in the blink of an eye.
I hope the experience was a positive one for you, and hope to see you again in the future. Thanks again for being part of this incredible weekend with us. Hope to see you down the road.
Best,
Arlene Boumel

*****Thanks, Arlene. Robt and I had a wonderful time, and your club is totally the BEST!

Grew up about 2 miles from Nestlow on Beech Fork, Left there JAN '61 for 31 yrs with Uncle Sam

Ah! A Mills! Y'all had a pretty farm as I recall, with the house backed up to the hill and the front yard giving way to pasture spread out like an apron. When we moved to Huntington, my goat, Nanny (what else) came to live with you. Next time we visited she had a couple of twin kids. After all this time I still think of Nestlow as home. Merry Christmas and Thanks for writing.

Been talking to Robert Scott by phone recently, former bassist for our late 70's band from Kentucky,"White Lightnin'. Hope you do well on the road. Robert is a great bassist and our power trio back in the late 70's was made better thanks to the bottom RS laid down. Keep in touch!

THANKS RICK AND JIM. 10-4 ON ROBERT'S ABILITY. HE WAS LIKE A KID BROTHER TO ME BACK WHEN HE FIRST CAME ABOARD THE BUS. (ME 32, ROBERT 18) NOW, WE'RE BOTH A COUPLE OF GEEZERS. GEEZERS, HOWEVER, RULE! BUT YOU GUYS KNOW THAT BY NOW FERSURE. THANKS AGAIN

Panama, You have any idea where Cully is these days? Now that I'm often in TX I'd like to look him up, maybe play a few tunes.

Hank! I'm glad to hear from you, but I have to say that I have not seen nor heard from Wichita since the late 70s, when we last jammed at his estate in Arkansas. Have you tried Kinky? Of us all, he might know.

Hello,
Though I try to rarely go back to the past, tonight I found myself looking at an abandoned guitar that I had saved from being hocked. I had to ask myself why, since I can't play it and then I remembered a household that always had music, that for a brief time I was a part of. I can see that some things haven't changed. I rarely (or never) contact people this way but on impulse I thought about all of you so I will step out of my comfort zone. I was actually looking for Patty
Love,
Sharon

Glad to hear you're doing ok. Perhaps you remember-- you played our Under the Oaks concert venue a couple of times in Lutz. We sold that house just before the market crashed-- living in a 34 foot trailer here in Wesley Chapel. No more homeowners responsibilities, thank God! Still doing music ourselves, just no house concert hosting anymore. Those were great years, all 8 of them!

Take care-- keep keeping us posted as to your life.

my cousins, my sister, and I rent a beach house on Tybee Island every March, and a couple of years ago, we had a huge family battle about how to season you cast iron skillet. To the point that a couple of cousins brought their skillets the next year and we had a sort of battle of the skillets. I forwarded your email to all of my cousins just to kind of "stir it up". Thanks

You're welcome. There are, of course, many ways to skin a cat.

Dam few of us left, Larry! I went back through the old hometown a few years ago and was amazed at how tiny the place is. Even Buffington Street, which had seemed so wide when we were kids, is only about 20 feet across. Nowadays the town is even less populated and poorer than back then.

So, happy New Year Danny!

Over the years, I've sent you a message or two and haven't really said who I am, but bear with me....

Whenever I walk in a London street,
I'm ever so careful to watch my feet;
And I keep in the squares,
And the masses of bears,
Who wait at the corners all ready to eat
The sillies who tread on the lines of the street
Go back to their lairs,
And I say to them, "Bears,
Just look how I'm walking in all the squares.

When is the last time you sang that? The last time I heard you sing this was at Beaux Arts, 1966?

Did you ever save enough money to have your armpits surgically removed?

Been to Tompkins Square lately? Blind Justice or Cafe Eye?

Anyway, I hope you don't mind me having a little fun. I think it's a good mental exercise.

I hope you have a great year, please say hello to Gary.

(I was just going to send this and I've got last.fm streaming on my computer, when it plays Kenny Loggins singing House on Pooh Corner, so there!)

Oh, the mystery!
thx

One fateful Friday evening at Club Tommy Reese (circa 1967) you did a bit about George Washington and the boys doing Cold Turkey......and before that (on another evening) you played Ragamuffin, which I thought was perfect for your gut string guitar...
You still Left Handed?.

I was a younger friend of Annie Stanfield, Lee Swearingen... and Fay Posse was a fellow classmate of my Italian Cousins in Tampa.
Tommy Culpepper slid in with the Jewboys, which freed up a slot in another (San Antonio) band for me in 1973.
Strange how things migrated in those days....
I hope you will record When Little Boy Blue Owns Waterfront Property....some day.

JOHN:
WOW! Small world, huh? As it happens, I'm working on a new CD, and due to numerous requests like yours, Waterfront Property is planned for it. So unless it sucks totally....
Thanks so much for writing; lately all I been getting are Cyrillic spam, which may be but probably aren't coded state secrets from behind the erstwhile Iron Curtain.
And, yes, to my continued chagrin, I still play southpaw.

I just got off the phone with James Odom. My son, Adam, has had the opportunity to play with Billy Joe Shaver on a couple of times, once at Eddie's Attic in Atlanta, he sat in for 2 songs and then Billy Joe had James to call and see if we could bring him to Texas to play at (Luchenbach)(spelling). We immediately got tickets and flew him out. Adam is fourteen and absolutely loves the guitar. He just recorded one of BJS's songs where he played guitar, bass, and sang. He used the drum track off of his recorder. We will be keeping a watch on your website now and hopefully be able to see you when you are back in the States. If not, we are coming to Europe next summer for a month, we might possibly be able to see a show there.

Sincerely,

The theories regarding the Red Planet are contradictory, and while some give hope that life could exist beyond Earth, others reduce this possibility to almost nothing. Everything now comes down to finding two essential compounds of life forms: carbon and water.

I remember you from the time that ya'll were in Atlanta.
Best wishes, Rick Bear

Hey Rick
Yes, I remember you. I think all y'all had gone to the Texas Pop Festival when we showed up. We waited around John Ivey's place til you got back.
I saw a huge golden eagle on the river there behind John's place, taking off from a treetop.
I've often wondered and never been able to find out, whatever happened to Jeff Espina?

24% of Americans believe that the Internet is able for a time to replace them with a loved one. For obvious reasons, such sentiments particularly prevalent among residents of the United States alone. Both men and women can replace the beloved, beloved trips to the World Network. However, the willingness to such transactions vary among followers of different ideologies: conservatives frowned relate to this idea, and the "progressive-minded" on the contrary, Nerkarat it.

Study company Zogby International also showed that every fourth resident of the United States have their own representation in the web-site or internet-stranichka. Hi Panama!!!
Just wanted to say.. It was a Great moment in my life to spend some time with you.. I say moment because it seems so short of a time looking back... I learned a lot from your wisdom and gained a friend in the process. Thank you for thinking enough of me to write a song with me and even just writing one for me...I do hope to sit with you again soon and listen to you play and sing one of your Greats!!! Sincerely, Your friend, Billy Payne

Good site!
NOTE: last night, while talking to my friends joe bageant and dick cooper, i decided that i would try to respond at least as appropriate, to my Guestbook. A letter such as this might not be one I'd respond to, but if I get any more serious or funny things in the Guestbook, I'm going to respond. So, anyway a big old hearty "Thanks" to your compliment anent our website.

Sounds like real run Panama. We had a little celebrations in Gold Gate Park this weekend at a real FREE 40th anniversary re-make of the Summer of Love. Everyone alive an still able was on stage performing. I got an hour of video, out of a 7 hour concert. Will post something on the blog when I get a chance.

ORANJESTAD, Aruba - Felix rapidly strengthened into a dangerous Category 5 hurricane and churned through the Caribbean Sea on a path toward Central America, where forecasters said it could make landfall as "potentially catastrophic" storm.
Felix was packing winds of up to 165 mph as it headed west, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center. It was projected to skirt Honduras´ coastline on Tuesday before slamming into Belize on Wednesday.
"As it stands, we´re still thinking that it will be a potentially catastrophic system in the early portions of this week, Tuesday evening, possibly affecting Honduras and then toward the coast of Belize," said Dave Roberts, a hurricane specialist at the center in Miami.

Opened your e-mail late but here's a quick attempt at a stanza....followed by my notion of it's meaning (I haven't had a French class since 1970 New Hampshire);

La Mere
grles moi, ce soir
salut pas au revoir
Vents chuchotant troitement
Les agir d'amour comme des vagues

The Sea,
hails to me this evening
"Hi," not goodbye
Winds whispering close
"Love acts as waves do"

and another stanza;

Mon frre,
comme chaleur de l'amour implore
la nuit ou le jour, rsistent pas l'encouragement
mais soulagez-le

My brother,
as love's heat implores, night or day,
don't resist its encouragement
but relieve it

Hi Panama, which price do we win..3rd? ..Meaning, when are you coming over?

PS little anecdote about "French". My father was a man that loved laughter and although he could speak several languages (including French), he loved to make up weird songs. (it was years later that I found out that my perfect Latin song existed of nothing but nonsense cocked up words) Unlike yours, his French song did have meaning, he would sing "Sus mon sack hang soire, foulle err es effe, sus mon sack hang swar, foulle err is an.."FOULLE ERR "S EFFEEE", wich is nothing else then then Dutch pronounced with a French accent for ;He' Sis my balls hang heavy, would you like to fumble with them..?
As crude as the translation might sound, when he sang it he could bring tears to peoples eyes. We were once invited to a "gig" of a friend of his and ended , all dressed up, in an old peoples home where the youngest must have read bedtime stories to my grandma. We were their prisoners of youth..After he was finished my dad decided it was time for an "encore" and sang his full version of his own French/Dutch ballade, although we were in hysterics on the floor, the sweet occupants gave him a standing ovation.. Like always with my dad, it turned out to be a nice day after all (-;

Female vocal groups began to produce songs that mixed Doo-wop harmonies with Rhythm and Blues music. There's not a single weak track among all that work, and there's simply no question that they consistently broke new ground musically. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

Hi!
nice to meet you!

Maria Sanches - Wednesday, July 18th, 2007 7:20 PM CDT
gUJ0eK First there is the need to find the real meaning life has for you. This journey we are all on is a varied one, for sure, but there are some similar things we are all going through.

Each of us, in our search for meaning in life, has a vast amount of experience to draw upon. Our struggles and hardship, along with our achievements and blessings, teach us life´s lessons. Your experience, your strength and the hope that endures are part of your unique story — and part of the reason why you should tell your life story.

The second primary reason to tell your life story is to leave your mark. We all want to be remembered. Certainly we want to be remembered for the good we've done and for the significant accomplishments in our lives. There is satisfaction in a life well-lived. Living a life fully... richly experiencing what it means to be alive and involved in helping others is a great thing. To share with others who you are, what you are about and what you believe in is passing on some very valuable personal history.

Beth Sanders - Wednesday, July 18th, 2007 12:16 PM CDT
qE0tB0 First of all, there´s no one else like YOU—your story is unique and you can tell about people, times, and places that only YOU can share.

Why not tell your grandchildren about you….plus their grandparents, great-grandparents, and even their great-great grandparents (that´s

your grandparents)! It´s really about creating a loving, lasting bond—preserving not just life stories, but relationships, for

generations to come.

Of course, you can also give them your own advice about love, work, and how to lead a good life. Here was my grandma´s advice to me: "Be

what you want. If you do something, do it the best you can." Because it´s my grandma, it means so much more. I´ll always be able to

remember what she said because it was actually written down. What´s your advice for your family? This is your opportunity to write it

down.

Reminiscing is good for you too! Over 100 studies over the last 10 years have found that reminiscing lowers depression, alleviates

physical symptoms (arthritis, asthma), and stimulates the hippocampus where memories are stored in the brain. So consider the great

health reasons for reminiscing too.

I can't be bothered with anything. Pretty much nothing seems worth bothering with, but I don't care. I just don't have anything to say right now. Not much on my mind these days, but I guess it doesn't bother me. My life's been really bland these days, but whatever.

MACTEP7 - Saturday, June 9th, 2007 5:32 AM CDT
I've just been letting everything pass me by lately. I haven't been up to much lately. My life's been dull recently, but that's how it is. I've just been sitting around doing nothing. It's not important. My mind is like a complete blank.

I haven't been up to anything , not that it matters. Basically nothing seems important, but I guess it doesn't bother me. Not much on my mind to speak of. Today was a loss, but maybe tomorrow.

Thanks, Panama.
Well said, a tad depressing and funny, as always.
Interesting to hear your neck of the woods is gettin' tainted. Soon you won't be able to tell it from California.
Much praise to you on greening what you can. In Northern California, there are so many greenies, they even post info on how to have an eco-friendly kid's birthday party.
I guess all any of us can do is ride the Rapture as best we can.

I,ve been reading Joe Bageant for a year or so
and read your letter today
and noticed how remarkable
it was to one I wrote to joe
around the begining of the
year comenting on how I was
born in Kentucky and was raised in Florida since I
was 5 we,d go back every
Summer vacation until 1976
I turned 19 that Oct 3
having lived in New Smyrna
Beach Fla. when the entire
state had a few million people and watch it become
a Calcutta Mass Of Humanity
I moved up here 2 years ago next month to a small town a few miles from the Louisville metro line only the Kentucky of my youth is also rapadily disapearing
its apears the whole countrys becoming Fucking Florida here there pimping
off the biggist houses on the smallast lots here like
Florida weve gone from
a sitting on the front pourch America to a hideing the hell out behinnd a privacy fence America the only thing I see left of that happy days America is the piece of shit two lane
roads you still have to drive on....look at the map this is more Midwest than
Missippi......Son of a bitch.... maybe I can move someplace like North Dakota
to ride out Jebs 8 years I
allready have the bumpersticker [JEB 2008 ITS
NOT WHO VOTES WHO COUNTS ITS
WHO COUNTS THE VOTES]
Please keep me informed of your rants so I wont feel like Im in this alone.

Hi Nancy
People are not rioting in the street over this because we have a tradition of not having to riot in the street because up to now most of the time our government has been pretty fair and okay about us the little guys,
AND we're kept complacent by fast food additives,
AND we're distracted by pop media
AND we are either optimists about where we're heading
OR we're pessimists about what we can do about it.

I got a response from a friend in Santa Fe pointing out that snopes.com(which I've taken to calling nopes.com) says this idea has been around the internet track before and will not work because the majors will just sell gas to the companies that are not being boycotted...Fungibility, they call it.
Well, screw that. Then if we don't buy gas from Exxon or Shell...eventually the station operators are gonna say, hey what gives? people aren't coming in like they did before to even buy bread and milk at our ripoff prices like they used to.
This is not a thing into which I want to put a heavy personal investment...if I do the corporate terrorists have won...I'm just personally not going to buy gas at their branded stations (Exxon and Shell) and they won't have MY 10 bucks every two days at least. And I urge everyone else not to, either. I'm going to buy my gas at Citgo...I'd rather be giving the money to Hugo Chavez, who's redistributing land to the poor in Venezuela (where gas is 18 cents a gallon) than be giving it to these middle eastern guys who in turn use it to support ignorant assholes whose religion demands of them that they be out to kill or convert me and every other non-Muslim...there's something to the fact that 15 of 19 September 11 highjackers came from Saudi Arabia, the home of the friends and patrons of the family Bush.
So maybe my not buying gas from Exxon and Shell is pissing in the wind, but I don't think so. At least they won't have MY money. And maybe Chavez, who's only a bad guy if you don't like socialism, will appreciate the business.
BUY CITGO!!! AT LEAST IT COMES FROM THIS HEMISPHERE.

Hey Red,
It's Wiley. Joe Bageant's buddy over here in my 28 ft sailboat on a trailer dreaming of Belize and points south, over in the next county(unless you're in Williamson, but if your in Rutherford, I'm in Wilson) over here in Lebanon.
Thought it might be time to introduce myself as a neighbor and kindred spirit.
You're over there near Triune an a little farther south of there where my old buddy Gordon Payne lives or did, ain't seen him in way to long.
My claim to musical fame (almost) is I wrote "My Car's a Gasoholic, It's Drivin' Me To Drink) Look me up on the BMI website, I'm there (Unleaded Music)
So give me a hollar, Red, let's get together and maybe we can get old Joe a Nashville Book tour date and have a big ole time

Great to see these pics and read your always entertaining and enlightening prose, with all its implied poetry, Danny.
The survival of the vagabond troubador is as important as that of the tidal titmouse, that's fer damn sure, and you are keepin' the cause alive.
I get around a bit myself, to China and points S/SW, and to Europe and points E/NE/SE, and it's a big world out there most Americans are blissfully unaware of...keep the music and that independent spirit coming...
You are a real inspiration to that dumb kid who still lives happily inside me who used to hang at the Beaux Arts, back in the day when you were a really arrogant SOB. (paste little smiley joky thing here...I refuse to do so...beneath my mammoth dignity.) Cheers!

Great effort in this web site. The name caught my eye. I lived in Panama and surrounding countries (Chile, Ecuador and Argentina) for a couple of years for the School of the Americas in the early 70's. Nice people there back then, not the Americans, the locals and especially the Kuna Indians, makers of molas from the San Blas Islands, Atlantic\Caribbean side of Panama. Best of luck and keep on truckin.

Sorry for the rant, it's off-topic, but please do think about this. I have traveled in over 40 countries and as I now fly mostly in US, I now realize that the majority of poor
countries make it easier to get around by air. It is a sad moment for me every time I go to an airport.

I am enjoying this. Crosby's schooner "Mayan " was built in Belize (upriver somewhere] in 1947, Longleaf yellow pine and Honduran Mahagony. Bobby Allen had a misadventure back in the day attempting to build a boat there in absentia (not the village of Absentia)

Please send me any information about Beltone guitars that you may know. Thanks, Burt

Happy Holidays

Best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral, winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most joyous traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, but with respect for the religious persuasion of others who choose to practice their own religion as well as those who choose not to practice a religion at all.

Plus, I wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions have helped make our society great, without regard to the race, creed color, religious, or sexual preferences of the wisher.

Most Sincerely, Ric O'Barry

Disclaimer: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and is not responsible for any unintended emotional stress these greetings may bring to those not caught up in the holiday spirit.
Void where prohibited.

Howdy Panama!
I just got back from Dallas Texas, guitar hunting and T-bone shufflin'(good grief, everything's big in Texas indeed, also the steaks). Found some nice pieces of old Gretsches, Guilds and rarities. Great to see all them folks back on the guitarshow in Arlington and those brilliant
guitarplayers, squeezing the blues out! Never found another Martin than the one I got from you. Let me know if you find some oldies and goldies for the one and only DE PLUG in Amsterdam!
Keep on rockin'! Peter

Sam Catfish:
I went to high school in Galveston County...in LaMarque to be precise. How are things in the Galveston? I miss that old rank and cynicall island.
When I was in high school, Galveston still had open gambling, cockfights, and all of that.
God I love that place. Origiannly settled by cannabilistic Indians, then they were driven out by pirates, and then the cotton magnates took over. Only place I've ever lived where the city flower was a poinsonous plant.
Yup, that's my Galveston, the Oleander City....I sure do miss it. Sometimes....

Ric O'Barry - Tuesday, August 30th, 2005 2:42 PM CDT
Dear Panama Red,

Hurricane Katrina came through our town and destroyed our lovely tropical garden out back. Everything was flattened.

We started cutting up what Katrina left behind and began to build a pile in the back yard. After several days, the pile was enormous. Something like a small mountain. I studied the pile for a long time wondering how in the world I could get it out of the back yard and into the front yard next to the street to be picked up. I decided that the best way was to simply get started. Working like an ant in the searing heat of the day, I started dragging one or two branches at a time to my new pile in the front.

A strange thing is happening here. The new pile in the front has become at least three times larger than the original pile in the back. The pile out back refuses to change sizes no matter how much I remove from it. It's exactly the same size that it was when I started.

Although this project has been going on for just a few days now, it seems like I've been doing this most of my adult life.

I have now given up on the pile in the back and refuse deal with it any longer. Now I'm just walking back and forth from pile to pile staring in amazement. Pretty stupid.

Lately I've been walking through the air conditioned house instead of around the house thus avoiding the heat of the day as I stare at the two piles. Pretty clever.

So far, I have only stopped walking back and forth long enough to write this down on the computer as I pass it in the living room.

Death
(Henry Scott Holland )

I am standing on the seashore.
A ship spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the ocean.
I stand watching her until she fades on the horizon,
and someone at my side says,
"She is gone."

Gone where?

The loss of sight is in me, not in her.
Just at the moment when someone says,
"She is gone,"
there are others who are watching her coming.
Other voices take up the glad shout,
"Here she comes,"
and that is dying.

Ell and I have been road warriors over a year now, and yet have a real home to hang our hats. KS is still in a flux. But I had a revelation whilst on the road. I am everyway positive that most the photos I have sent to you are probably in color slide format. I was always certain that I had done them in color and only made a transition to B & W when taking a Photo 101 class when I were a pup. But alas, everything is in storage. Anyway, just updating you while on a short stay at my daughters here in KS. Hopefully we'll make a run that stops in Nashville and have a meal again. Ph is still the same should you like to make contact. (760) 953-0835. But all in all, I've had my fill of the old U.S. The sites are becoming all the same. Ciao.

Marlan - Wednesday, January 26th, 2005 10:45 PM CST
OH LORDY HOW I LOVE IT!!!
Panama,
I didn't want to let another minute go by
without
telling you how much I LOVE your new CD.
All the songs on "Choice Buds" have
memorable lyrics
-- love the chorus of "Over You Now." And the
instrumentals on all the tunes are knock-down
foot-tapping great. Even without the title
"Choice
Buds" and the written explanation, I could
see how
everyone contributed their hearts out on
this one.

Love love love the harmonica. And your
bluesy, jazzy
voice which is ragged in some spots and
smooth in
others -- but always right for the song.

Were a couple of these songs written in
response to a
near death experience? They seem to be
grabbing life
by the short hairs with an awareness of a
ticking
clock (or maybe that's my imagination working
overtime).

Really fine CD. My favorites:
"Duchess"..."Over You
Now"...
"Bottom Dollar"...they're all great, but
those really
got me.
Oh, and thanks for sending it in a plain brown
wrapper. I was afraid it might say "Panama
Red" in
big red letters on the outside. Or worse,
"CHOICE
BUDS INSIDE" -- and then I'd never get it
out of the
post office.

Thank you.

-Marlan

Hey Red,

Nice work pal. Choice Buds is mellow,
polished, grown-up, and just plain
nice to listen to. Great musicians,
terrific harp in particular and whoever
thought of pairing you with a sax gets my vote. Dammit, what you need now
is the tour!

One question, I loved the sound of "He's got a bullwhip on his belt, he's skinny as a rail, you can ??? his ??? to the Saint Pete jail. Are there lyrics on the net somewhere?

BTW, Darcy made me promise she gets it
tomorrow.

This is a pleasure.

Just got my "Choice Buds" CD…what a treat. Fresh music I had never heard before slotting up my new "Choice Buds" CD. The vocals are outstanding making one who has done a little jail time and lived in Wyoming County and abroad hanker for youth again. The craft of the musicians is without equal supporting your vocal style shifting from one lyric to another without being too intrusive yet strong and slick. Congratulations, on a project well done…oz

Hi Red!

Enjoy your views/experiences/insights of the French & France. Great people. I used to own an apartment on the east side of Paris (RER 4) BryS/Marne on the way to Euro Disney. A lovely former wife,Peggy, assured me that she had been 'close' to Napoleon B. so we migrated. As you knoe, after one gets to KNOW ones'partner much can be understood in the higher vibrations, on that note I'll say I think that she did 'know' him.

I traveled thruout the land and met and enjoyed many people. Never visited your music venue though.

Reciently sent a copy of OUR photo taken at Fogartyville Cafe, Bradenton, Fl. to an expat writer in Japan. He really liked your friends recient "Letter.. " article.

C'mon, Danny, did you really read Gore Vidal's "Burr"? The most intersting part, I didn't know, was the guy who had the island in the Ohio River..Blaughterhausan or something like that.. and how he was part of a conspiracy to turn much the southern Louisina Purchase, Texas and Mexico and begin their own kingdom. I never did like Hamilton, so it wass good to see the Vice-President victorious in the duel.

This is Robert in seattle who wrote your bad self a few years ago and you were wondering if i was someone else and i wasn't. I don't write often. I now have got myself a cutaway acoustic guitar - most importantly it is blue - my favorite color. I still am amazed by 'lost in Austin' and 'heaven on Earth' - simply incredible song creating. I am trying to learn to play them. I hope your feeling well.

Very sorry to hear about Marcia also,,,she and Sam took me in in 1972 for a few months and were very kind. She was everything you described. In those days Heather was about two, Ted Reynolds was also living in the house and they were recording the Electra album at Quadraphonic. They were also opening for B.J. Thomas and Ike and Tina from time to time. I also wish I had a copy of it,,,Great Songs ( Sadie, Little Mother) Thanks for reminding me of a great period and a wonderfully kind woman.

A few years ago my girlfriend and I were walking down the stoney streets of Amsterdam. I was feeling a little homesick and all of a sudden I hear this fabulous music coming out of a cafe. Inside we went and there was this fella with a fender guitar, strawberry hair and shiney smile singing his living heart out. We stayed, smoked and everything sounded soooo good and you are sooooo cute. I should have introduced myself.

One day I was cruising around cd baby and lo and behold!!! there you are again, sugar. The cd is great. I don't know which song i like best. The magic just keeps coming and coming. I live in Portland, Oregeon and if you are ever playing anywhere near here please let me know I'd love to come see you. I go up to Seatle and Canada from time to time, too...

Amen and FM! Seeing as you are a local denizen of the infamous, once famous, and now depleted of real talent area, once known as Nashville, I have to offer kudos to the cajones you've shown by calling things as they are regarding the current debacle. Being so close in proximity, it is probably akin to watching your beloved child, that maybe at one time you even spoiled a little, take you to court and throw you out of your own house.

I, amongst others. waited ever so patiently for Nashville to awaken from its lethargic coma that it has been in for the last 20 years or so, but it only gets worse, doesn't it?

I really appreciated the right-on-the money assessment of the new breed of flag waving, gun toting bigots that the machine is foisting on us. Or trying to.

Once again, I'm on a two-day sabatical from ye old roade. It seemed I have spent more than my fair share of time in the North and Northwest territories, and I find an even more urgent need to see the South. (In spite of Nashville!)

Looking forward to spening a little time in LV!

Ciao! (or "chow" as us thin challanged folk like to say.)

I am interested in anything you would like to share about your time at Beaux Arts in Pinellas Park. I spent my high school years there, before moving to California. I knew it felt important at the time but I had no idea how much history it held, how many people met and were influenced by the place. I tried to see Tom when I was there, but he was having a bad day.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you,

Dear Mr. Red:

I recently had the opportunity of purchasing a copy of Home Grown, having heard about same through some guy called Dan or Danny. But I digress.

After listening to the entire CD, I was amazed at the talent contained in those few bands. The lyrics are simple, yet provocative and titillating, and the music just down-right toe tappin´. Your genius on the 6 string and the 12 string is quiet evident and I am surprised that your talent has been squashed by those less than talented folks who reside on Music Row.

I am delighted that Kinkajou Records (what an interesting name for a label!) had the foresight to recognize your talent and distribute this quaint gem.

Ergo, I am of the opine that my money was well spent, and that Home Grown, is, indeed, a CD that will remain in my collection, and will fit in nicely next to some damn Texas singer named Kinky Friedman, who is evidently a religious fanatic of sorts as illustrated by the songs on his albums/CDs.

I was, however, depressed over the fact that a little know song that is/was supposedly written by you called "Mama Baby Mama" was not on the CD. But I will get over it.

In closing, I would like to say that you are a rare talent that has been hiding in the shadows, and thank you for coming into the light.

EXCELSIOR!

R. Bemis

PS: I had the opportunity of seeing you in concert several years ago and there was this woman, evidently a "groupie", who had the screamin´ he-be-gebies hanging out and around you both back stage and at your bus. She was a lovely lady, despite her propensity to scream, and I wonder what ever happened to her?

Such fun to read your stuff. I really do enjoy it. Your trip thru NY state prompted the sharing of some special memories between Mom and I. Thanks again for the goodness you inspire. Oh and she tells me that she sent you the lyrics to the Erie Canal song. Enjoy. We were singing it to one another over the phone last week-end, me on the West coast and she on the East. And we were firmly connected. Blessed Be.

Loved your story-it brought back many memories. My son and his wife lived in Burlington in between semesters at RIT. an engineering co-op program where they moved every three months between IBM and RIT.By the way did you know that the original Erie canal was not built by engineers but two lawyers. I learned that tidbit of information looking at a children's book here in the library. The book is The Erie Canal which contains the words and music to the song Carol was telling you about.Music by Thomas S. Allen copyright 1912,now owned by the Jerry Vogel Music co. 121 W.45th StN.Y.N.y.10036 illustrated by Peter Spier. This is probably more than you wanted to know. But Carol asked me for the words and I'm just not that good a typist. Loved your music!

keep traveling. i was thrilled to read the latest installment. great stuff. travel writers don't nail down the experience of motating from one locale to the next as well as you do. To be fair to the travel writers, they start out at a disadvantage, Having far less to offer than you. For the travel writer the world goes by, pay as you go, like mall rat pilgrims. For you the experience is quite different and perhaps more honorable, as you are a earn as you go minstrel.

keep it up. i can't wait for the next installment.

I was trying to find Sam or Marcia Routh and ran across your site. I wasn't aware that Marcia passed away. That wasn't good news for me. I met them in Tulsa in the early 70's. I ran into Sam in the early 80's. I was hoping maybe somebody preserved some of the stuff they recorded for Electra that was never released. I had a reel to reel copy of the master at one time and I lost it a long time ago. It's still one of my favorite records, and I do a couple of the songs from it. So far I haven't had any luck finding Sam or his parents. Anyway. I discovered your stuff, and it's right up my alley. so I'll Email you so I can buy your CD with my card.

Did Marcia ever tell you how Sam used to tie a rope around her neck and make her run beside the pickup to lose weight?

Red...are you taking your medicine? You know what the Doctor said would happen if you didn't take your medicine!
It's official. The Taurus is scheduled for closure in June to build a 5-story building on the parking lot. Only the original building (the bar) will be preserved. We're looking for a new venue. JB

Ron Hatcher - Saturday, February 1st, 2003 5:04 PM CST
HomeGrown is wonderful! I gave it as a (belated) Christmas gift to four people, and they've all reported back that they loved it. (Plus they were able to cite titles and lyrics, so I knew they were not just being polite.)

Thanks to Panama for jotting a note on each CD liner to the recipients.

I've had the CD for just over a month and enjoy it more each time I listen to it.

I just recently rec'd "HomeGrown" as a gift and was immediately captivated by the voice, guitar, and lyrics of Panama Red. There have been perhaps half a dozen albums that have affected me similarly (Guy Clark and Utah Phillips are two). Honest, clean music. Great stuff!

Claire - Thursday, January 16th, 2003 5:26 PM CST
Hey Panama, I found this site by accident, but I'm really glad that I did. I have a gig this weekend actually at Fogartyville. I was looking for directions because I forgot where exactly it was. I wanted to tell you how great it was to play on the same courthouse steps as someone so awesome as you. It was great to meet a friend of Utah as well and I don't think I'll ever forget the look on my dad's face when I told him I met someone named Panama Red. Anyway, it was cool to come across this site and if you're ever playing around here again (if it's possible) give me a virtual hollar :o) It'd be great to see someone with good lines and a soul play some more. --Claire

I'm finding out that ya'll
poets and musicians have been given a gift of seeing things in a perspective of individuality centered visions, what you see,how to be daring enough or sharp enough to get your vision to be heard and seen with the same passion. The music, the nut shell to cover the meat,a temptation to sway into the words.
You take the dummy on your lap and make the wooden man sing, dummies say the hurtful, helpfull things we need to hear.

Joshua Smith - Wednesday, November 6th, 2002 10:03 PM CST
i ended up on your site while doing research on great apes (specifically orangutans). i noticed that you refer to bonobos as a subspecies of orangutans. this they are not. bonobos (Pan piniscus) as actually related to chimpanzees. further, they are not a subspecies, but a fully recognized individual species in their own right. just thought you might like to know so that your website is not portraying unintentionally incorrect information.

Panama,

It was a real pleasure to read your autobiography. Thanks for taking the time to write it.

I've never had any, but you can bet your "Bottom Dollar" if Panama Red comes to town, my woman won't be up in bed with him. Although I'll probably be fallin' out and hangin' 'round.

Cheers and Namaste,

Hey Red, saw your show at the Bamboo Room Tuesday night and you tore us up who were sittin' out there in the darkness. Great songs, stories, and guitar pickin'.
I'd put a sort of review on the message board over at my site and damned if one of your old acquaintances didn't find it. Hey down there Patrick! Anyhow hope you can make it back to Lake Worth one of these days. I'd have bought a cd but I had about enough for two cokes and a tip for the waitress.

Hey! Correction!

When I said "I was the only person," I didn't finish my sentence...what I meant to say was this: I may be the only person to have gone to a Hall and Oates show just to see the sax player...

Sorry for the unintentional goof.

Patrick Lanzing - Thursday, May 16th, 2002 4:08 PM CDT
Gary: I am an old fan circa 1967-9 Beaux Arts Days. Through Tweed, heard about your recent gig at the Bamboo Room. I'm livin' in
Chicago now, but haven't forgotten your songs, playing and style, "East Gate" still ringing in my brain... Have seen you with Kinky's group in TX and elsewhere, and I may be the only person and wish you real well. Hope to catch your millenium version sometime soon.

I sent Kacey some old shots I did of TTJB's @ The Troubador in L.A.. Did she forward any copies to you? Just wondering. Some pretty nifty stuff there if I do say so myself.
