 Sign Panama's Guestbook |  | UNDER THE BLUE MANGO TREE PANAMA GETS HIS SURF ON AND GOES TO BELIZE Hometown, TN, 01/16/03 - - My pal Joe Bageant has a tremendous new book of essays ("Deer Hunting with Jesus") coming out published by Random House or somebody, I don't pay much attention to these things anymore, unless I'm being paid, which I'm not. But at any rate, because we're both redneck socialists (leftnecks?), he's invited me to go down to Belize where we're gonna sit around under a blue mango tree and do not very much except be breathing in the third world. It's a very bodhi kinda thing. One of the things I hope to get accomplished, aside from untangling and healing my corporate nation soul, is to capture on disc some of the remaining Brokdong music before it's all gone, maybe some more Garifuna-influenced drum sounds as well. I'd like to check out the Mayan ruins there, maybe do a little snorkeling, be absorbed in angelfish rather than CNN. Release my inner monkey. Tomorrow, all proceeding as unplanned, I'll be somewhere in the tropics. I'll sit under a blue mango drinking Belikan beer and watching the surf. And not thinking about it. I'll keep you posted.
